ACTIVITIES OF KASLO
Kaslo is an easy place to fall in love with; the beauty of its setting is almost overwhelming at first. Look across the brilliant clear water of Kootenay Lake at the mountains opposite. The forested slopes beckon hikers, mountain bikers and backcountry skiers, and provide inspiration for musicians and artists. The most dramatic peak, snowtopped for all but a few weeks every year, is the mountain named after the Norse god Loki, a legendary trickster and a shape shifter. Climbing Mt Loki is a rite of passage for many Kaslovians.
All that wildness fosters a sense of adventure, an urge to get out there. Carve your own path or follow the route of the wagon roads and pack horse trails.
The Kaslo River Trail is an excellent walk or jog that takes you on a loop along the river across the new suspension foot bridge and back into town. The trail can start from your doorstep as can the relaxing beach trail.
For those looking for more action Kaslo has golf, tennis, water skiing/wake boarding, rock climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, and a new skate park. Back country, Helli and Snow cat skiing in the renowned Selkirk snow pack.
Kaslo is a great staging area for some of the best quad and motorbike trails around. In the winter snowmobiling is also unmatched.
The SS Moyie is a must see for any first time or return visitor for a look into the past of the mining and pioneering days of the Kootenays.
